· “Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, "Go, take the scroll that is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land." So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, "Take and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey." And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter. And I was told, "You must again prophesy about many peoples and nations and languages and kings."” Revelation 10:8-11 ESV There are things that must be done that are hard, they may leave a bitter taste in the mouth of the one who brings the message. It could be a police officer who has to go to the door of a family and tell them their teenager was killed because n a car accident. It could be the doctor telling a patient that there is nothing more that can be done, and the end of life is coming. Or, like in the passage I shared, it is the prophet that has to share the hard news from God to the people. No one likes sharing hard news, but it is a necessity in the world we live in. Why is there bad news in this world? Why doesn’t God just speak and all sickness, challenging times, and hardships go away? Perhaps it is the same reason John was told to prophesy to the people in his day, we are a rebellious and hard hearted people who desire our own will and direction rather than to walk in obedience to God. God offers grace and mercy in abundance, but when we choose another path, he will not honor our rebellion. Obedience to God, and surrender to his will brings the sweet taste of honey, let’s stop settling for the bitter taste of disobedience.
