· ”And after a time his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, "Lie with me." But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge.“ Genesis 39:7-8 ESV Joseph was an honorable man who found himself confronted with one of the more powerful temptations a man could face. Here was a woman begging him over and over and over to come have sex with her. Yet in the midst of a powerful temptation, Joseph stayed firm in his desire to honor God with his life, I wonder how many good Christian men would succumb to that kind of opportunity? This passage makes me think about some of the men I have worked with in my previous career. I remember hearing the conversations about how much they lusted over some actress or singer. It was an impossible thing to make happen, but the desire was real. And I have seen someone having to deal with the consequences of spending his families money at a place where women danced to entice men sexually. I have seen marriages destroyed when one spouse fell victim to the lustful desires for someone other than the one they committed their life to. So what do we do to keep honoring God with our lives when temptation comes, and it will come? We flee like Joseph fled, and if there is a consequence for fleeing, then we expect God to turn our sorrow to joy and our circumstances to opportunity, and believe he will lead us forward as we anticipate the return of the Kings of Kings.
