Yesterday, we released two more of our cold stunned green sea turtles back to the Gulf of Mexico!3/10/2024 Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research · Yesterday, we released two more of our cold stunned green sea turtles back to the Gulf of Mexico! These two were also satellite tagged so that we can monitor their movement. The rehabilitation time required for each sea turtle that comes to our facility varies based on the treatment and recovery needed to improve their ailments. Cold stunned sea turtles, without any other injuries or pneumonia, have a much quicker turn around. Sometimes these animals suffer from physical trauma from washing ashore, predation from other animals or frostbite resulting in a longer stay. We accommodate each animal’s needs in rehab with help from our Houston Zoo veterinarians. Thank you to Johnny and Sydney Sullivan for their support and participation with our rehab and release. Be sure to follow our page for updates on our patients!
