Caption: A beach wagon filled with food and beverages is being raffled to raise money for the nonprofit Galveston Art League. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. in Galveston, as well as at the Saturday, Oct. 6 gala. You don’t need to be present to win.
If you're free this Saturday night, you still have time to support the visual arts and have a fun-filled evening--win-win!

The nonprofit Galveston Art League invites you to join with league supporters, members, and civic leaders at its gala from 6-10 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 6) in the San Luis Hotel Grand Ballroom in Galveston. Tickets, $150, are for sale at GalvestonArtLeague.com ― and some will even be available at the door. For details, contact [email protected].

Local TV personality Don Nelson will emcee at the annual fundraiser, themed "An Evening of Art & Music." The Galveston Symphony Orchestra, Galveston College Community Chorale, Galveston Heritage Chorale, and Sparky Koerner's Jazz Ensemble have been chosen as special honorees at the gala, which will celebrate the mutual support of art and music organizations in Galveston County.

What to wear? Anything from business casual to cocktail attire to music-themed or musician-themed clothes. (Yes, it's OK to come as your favorite Beatle or Elvis or Dolly or Adele or Cher.) There'll be fine dining, of course, with most guests served filet mignon as their entree. Meals for those with special dietary needs are also available.

But the gala is more than just a dinner. During live and silent auctions, guests can bid on a weeklong stay at a condo near Aspen, Colorado; original artwork; a helicopter tour over Galveston Island; a sitting for a portrait by an award-winning painter; gift certificates to local stores; and much more. Sparky Koerner's Jazz Express will perform at the gala.

There will be a raffle for a beach wagon filled with goodies for a gourmet picnic ― wine, liquor, and food. And to help guests document their good time at the gala, a photographer will snap portraits of guests.

Proceeds from the fundraiser support the Galveston Art League's mission of nurturing art appreciation and education. The league, founded in 1914, publicizes and exhibits the works of regional artists, holds juried competitions, and offers low-cost workshops and children's classes. It operates galleries at 2117A Postoffice St. in Galveston and 611 6th St. N. in Texas City; hours at both are noon-6 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays (and later during art walks).

To find out more about Art League membership (starting at $35 per year) and events, please visit GalvestonArtLeague.com or email [email protected].
