There’s Still Time to Buy a Party-Basket Raffle Ticket… and help a worthy cause

Galveston Art League members have contributed more goodies to the party basket
since this photo was snapped, and the basket is valued at well over $250. Raffle tickets are
$10 each or three for $25. Check out the basket and buy tickets at the Art League’s gallery,
2117A Postoffice St. in downtown Galveston.

The drawing to select the winner of Galveston Art League’s party basket will be Sunday, Dec.
20. There’s still time to purchase tickets for $10 each or three tickets for $25 to win this basket
full of wine, liquor, snacks, and party accoutrements such as wineglasses, festive napkins, and a
nautical wine stopper, a value of more than $250. It contains everything you need to throw a
fantastic bash – maybe you could throw a socially distanced New Year’s Eve soiree?
The raffle drawing will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. in
downtown Galveston. The party basket is on display in the gallery from noon to 6 p.m. this
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Raffle tickets are being sold in the gallery (check out the colorful
December show and sale of members’ art while you’re there), or you may contact a league
representative at 409-938-1671 or [email protected] to arrange your ticket purchase.
The raffle is a fundraiser to help the nonprofit Galveston Art League with its mission of
promoting visual arts and art education throughout Galveston County and even beyond its
borders. The Art League installs a new gallery exhibit every month, with three of those exhibits
consisting of entries accepted into a juried competition. The league promotes and offers for
sale the works of local artists, and it supports art education programs and teachers in the
region.
The Art League, an all-volunteer organization that has never had a salaried employee, was
established in 1914. After the coronavirus threat subsides, the organization’s leaders will
resume holding low-cost and free art workshops for all ages as well as organizing art-focused
travel.
In normal years, the Galveston Art League hosts a fall gala as its primary annual fundraiser to
support its gallery and other events. The pandemic derailed that event in 2020, of course.
The league also depends on tax-deductible donations and the sale of tax-deductible
memberships – to non-artists and artists alike – to fund its mission and gallery. You can find out
about membership levels and costs at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com by clicking on “Join” at
the top of the homepage. Art League members enjoy several perks, including exclusive preview
parties, early notifications about workshops (which have limited enrollment), and a subscription
to the league’s quarterly e-newsletter.

While you’re clicking around the league website, take a peek at recent shows and sales –
October, November and December show links are on the homepage. Purchases are easy with a
credit card, and delivery or curbside pickup is available.
The Art League welcomes new members year-round and encourages locals and tourists to visit
the gallery noon to 6 p.m. Fridays-Sundays to see ready-to-hang 2-D art (framed paintings,
photography, and collages) as well as 3-D items such as jewelry, art glass, sculpture, pottery,
and artisanal wood creations such as pens and bowls.
