Texas City, TX. October 2020 – The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Texas City received an unexpected charitable grant of $75,000 from the Valero Benefit for Children this year, despite the cancellation of the Valero Texas Open golf tournament and associated events.

“We are so grateful to Valero and their commitment to children,” said Major Nathanael Doria, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army. “Children have been impacted negatively by the disruption of their school and many parents are concerned that they are falling behind. We are happy to be able to offer extra support to some of the families in our community with a high-quality after school program.”

Education must go on even during a pandemic. While social distancing guidelines have reduced the number of children able to participate, it is important to provide opportunities for safe, social interaction and help with the academic progress that has been stunted by the unexpected closing of the schools in March.

Due to the incredible generosity of Valero’s business partners, donors and sponsors, more than $14 million in net proceeds from the Valero Texas Open will be distributed to agencies across the United States, fueling the work of hundreds of charity partners like The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Texas City when the need has never been greater.

OUR MISSION
---This is the outcome of our work – what The Salvation Army and the Boys & Girls Club Movement strive to accomplish together.
BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
---To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens
THE SALVATION ARMY
---To preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
