The Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research is planning its first release of sea turtles affected by this pasts week's cold weather.
Water temperatures below 50F cause sea turtles to "cold-stun" and they can perish. These recovered turtles will be released into the warmer Gulf of Mexico waters using Texas A&M University's R/V Trident - a 70 foot research vessel capable of operating offshore. We've been receiving many requests on how to donate. There are several ways. Much of our hospital supplies have been depleted from this event. If you would like to purchase supplies for our hospital on the TAMUG campus please consider purchasing from our Amazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/.../genericItemsPage/4EOLDU4THK0Z... Support is needed helping us train the sea turtle biologists of tomorrow. Consider donating $25, $50 or more to our "Spirit of Giving" campaign to fund undergraduate student internships: https://give.communityfunded.com/.../tamug-undergraduate... Last, any donations can be given to the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research using this link: https://www.tamug.edu/GulfCenterforSeaTurtl.../donation.html Thank you so much for the support and your passion for Texas sea turtles. #GCSTR #savetexasturtles #seaturtleconservation
