OUR PURPOSE
The Santa Fe Ten Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to design and build a memorial that remembers and honors those who died, and all individuals impacted on May 18, 2018 in the Santa Fe High School shooting.

We hear and appreciate community members’ concerns regarding the wishes of victims’ family members. Our intention as the Santa Fe Ten Memorial Foundation is to honor the Ten collectively and as individuals and strive to do so within the boundaries of the families’ comfort. We do, however, want to ensure each of the Ten are remembered, honored, and celebrated. As a non-profit, we would never seek to commercialize any part of the tragedy.  Rather, our fundraising efforts will go toward building a memorial intended to share with the community in the spirit of healing, remembrance and unity.

DESIGN ELEMENTS FEATURED CONCEPTS

After the tragedy, families and friends of the deceased, survivors, citizens of Santa Fe, neighboring community members and all individuals impacted needed a thoughtful and respectful space for reflection.
The journey of each visitors' path of healing, remembrance of the Ten, and resiliency will be captured in the overall plan of the memorial.
The foundation FORMATION
On May 18, 2018 our community was struck by an unimaginable tragedy.
A mass shooter entered the art rooms in Santa Fe High School and killed 8 students and 2 teachers.
The Santa Fe Ten Memorial Foundation was formed for the purpose of designing and building a permanent memorial in honor of the Ten lives lost that day.
Our nonprofit corporation is independent from the Santa Fe Independent School District(SFISD), and our governing board is comprised of family directors, community directors, school teachers, counselors and coaches that worked with or taught the Ten. All Ten families were invited to participate in the mission of the foundation.

Remembering The Ten

"People build monuments not because they do not know what else to do, but because there are wounds so deep that only monuments will serve to honor them."-- Andrew Butterfield, The New Republic, 2003
The Santa Fe Ten Memorial is designed to focus on the celebration of life and memory of the Ten individuals lost and not the tragic event itself.
Our vision is that the memorial can honor all Ten victims together so that no one person’s memory is excluded while we strive to respect each family’s wishes for the representation of their loved one.
We are extremely grateful for the support we have received, and we hope that each family will contribute special information and mementos of their loved one as they feel most comfortable.
