Resort at Texas City Nursing Home Deploys XENEX Disinfection Robot in Fight Against COVID-19

Nursing facility partnering with Xenex to deploy cutting-edge disinfection technology
TEXAS CITY, TX - Earlier this week, The Resort at Texas City initiated the use of Xenex LightStrike™ Germ-Zapping Robots™ to help curb the potential spread COVID-19 in the facility and further protect their residents and professional staff.
The LightStrike disinfection system uses pulsed xenon ultraviolet (UV) light to quickly destroy dangerous pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), Clostridium difficile (C.diff), and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
The LightStrike robot is proven to deactivate SARS-Co-V-2 in two minutes and can disinfect an entire resident room in as little as 20 minutes without damaging materials or equipment. The robot will be used to disinfect resident rooms, restrooms, public areas, meeting rooms and eating areas.
“We will be the first nursing home in the area to utilize this amazing technology usually deployed only in acute care facilities,” said John Griffin of The Resort at Texas City. “We are coordinating with the company directly in the hopes that we can lead in the use of this technology in facilities like ours.”
To further verify efficacy of the technology in the nursing home environment, The Resort at Texas City will be working with Xenex to perform swab surface testing before and after room disinfection.
More than 30 peer-reviewed studies have been published about the efficacy of the LightStrike disinfection technology, including hospitals that reported 50-100% reductions in C.diff, MRSA and Surgical Site infection rates after they began using LightStrike robots to disinfect rooms. LightStrike robots are currently used in more than 500 hospitals worldwide, including HonorHealth, the Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Stanford.
"As the world focuses on what can be done to stop the spread of COVID-19, we are proud to be helping The Resort at Texas City protect its residents and employees,” said Irene Hahn, Vice President of Sales for Xenex. "We have all seen the impact of COVID-19 on long-term care facilities and this relationship represents a major step forward in aggressively controlling its spread amongst this extremely vulnerable population."
“Nothing is more important to us here at The Resort at Texas City than the health and safety of those in our care and our staff,” continued Griffin. “We hope that this can become a model for success for facilities across Texas and the entire nation.”
