The Salvation Army relies on the committed and faithful service of volunteers year-round right here in Galveston County, and especially during the holiday season. This year Register to Ring, a new volunteer management program will make it easier than ever for individuals and groups to sign up to support the Red Kettle Campaign and volunteer as bell ringers.
“Register to Ring provides a simple, online sign-up option where volunteers can select the specific date, time and location they would like to ring,” said Captain Nathanael Doria, the Commanding Officer for The Salvation Army in Galveston County. “Our goal is to man as many red kettles as possible with volunteer ringers this year. Bell ringing can be a lot of fun and has become a Christmas tradition for many families and groups. I encourage everyone to visit www.RegistertoRing.com today and sign up to be a bell ringer.” The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s major fundraising event of the year and all proceeds support year-round programs and emergency assistance benefitting those in need in Galveston County. One of the first organized fundraisers of its kind in the US, the Red Kettle Campaign first appeared in San Francisco in 1891, and the impact of the kettles has grown every year since. The bell ringing season starts each November on Black Friday and runs through Christmas Eve. Volunteers can be the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $30 per hour – enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries or shelter an individual for a night. “If you have never volunteered with The Salvation Army before, come and give it a try. You can volunteer for a couple of hours or for the entire day. Be part of something special by helping make a difference in the lives of so many this holiday season, and all year round,” said Captain Doria.
