Painter Randall Cogburn will teach still life workshop Oct. 5 in Galveston by: Mary Vinnedge9/21/2019 Well-known regional artist Randall Kirby Cogburn will lead the Galveston Art League workshop “Painting Exciting Still Lifes” on Saturday, Oct. 5. The workshop will last three hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and is being taught at the Art League’s gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. in downtown Galveston.
Workshop participants from beginners to accomplished artists are welcome to attend and may create their still lifes in any medium they choose to work in: oil or acrylic paint, watercolor, pastels, colored pencils, and even markers, Cogburn says. Attendees should bring two 8-by-10 surfaces – paper, canvas, board – and an easel, along with other art supplies associated with their medium, such as a basic color palette, a palette, brushes, and so on. The cost of this workshop is $150, and you can register and pay via credit card at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com (click on “Workshops”). Cogburn, a member of the American Impressionist Society, has studied a broad range of art styles, realist to abstract, impressionist to classical. He uses loose and precise brushwork to apply vivid colors with an impasto feel, giving a sense of design and flair while revealing abstract influences. An accomplished plein air painter (creating artwork outdoors), Cogburn is known for his impressionist cityscapes, seascapes, landscapes, and portraits; www.RandallCogburn.com shows a variety of his works. Many of his paintings depict Galveston scenes and life. He exhibits and sells at Island Framed in Galveston and enters competitions at the Galveston Art League Gallery (details: www.GalvestonArtLeague.com – click on “Juried Shows”). The Galveston Art League, a 105-year-old all-volunteer nonprofit organization, hosts this workshop as part of its mission to promote visual arts and art education in the greater Galveston County area. The league is supported by sponsorships and memberships (see levels and prices at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com – click on “Join”), contributions, and an annual gala. This year’s fundraiser gala – which includes auctions, a gourmet dinner, an open bar, and live music – will be 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in the San Luis Hotel Grand Ballroom in Galveston. Gala tickets are available at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com or may be purchased at the Galveston Art League Gallery, open noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. More gala information is posted on the website; if you have questions, email [email protected] or call 409-938-1671.
