Meet JUDGE Kerri Foley County Court at Law 2

Valued Voters of Galveston County:
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share my qualifications and credentials with you.
I am Kerri Foley. 
I am your Judge in County Court at Law No. 2. 
The citizens of Galveston County elected me to this position in 2018 and I am honored to serve my community. 
 As your Judge, I preside over thousands of cases, including criminal, family, juvenile and civil cases. 
I am an experienced, seasoned judge. 
I have a reputation for running a court that is fair, efficient,  user-friendly and fiscally-conservative. 
Each case receives the special attention it deserves. 
I follow the law, even when the circumstances make it difficult. 
In County Court No. 2, we pride ourselves on being available and accessible to those requiring our services. 
We seek justice and accountability with compassion and professionalism.
This is not the first time I have run a county court.   
In 2013, when our County had a judicial vacancy, County Officials requested that I manage another county court.
   I am proud to say that I restored order,  justice and integrity to that court.
Over the last two decades, I have served our County as a Judge in six different courts.  I am the only candidate in this race with the judicial and legal expertise necessary to run County Court No. 2.

Personal & Professional BackgroundAbout Kerri…
I grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas, the daughter of a police officer and a comptroller at a savings and loan. My sister, Shanna, and I were taught from a young age the importance of service to the community, accountability, fairness and honesty.
I have spent my entire adult life in public service.  After obtaining my Criminal Justice degree from Sam Houston State University, I worked as a Child Abuse Investigator with Children’s Protective Services for five years. I was then promoted to Supervisor of a Child Abuse Unit, where I remained for six years, supervising nine Child Abuse Investigators and a variety of support staff.
While employed with Children Protective Services, I attended South Texas College of Law at night. I received my Doctorate of Jurisprudence in December 1992 and was admitted to the Texas Bar in May 1993.
I began my legal career as an Assistant to the General Counsel for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where I conducted research, drafted legal documents and provided legal guidance to agency administrators.
In April 1995, I accepted a position with the Galveston County District Attorney’s office as an Assistant District Attorney. During my six-year tenure with that office, I prosecuted primarily juvenile and misdemeanor offenders, sought emergency protective orders for victims of domestic violence and represented CPS in the litigation of child custody/protection issues.
While employed by the Galveston County District Attorney’s office, I was promoted to the position of Chief Prosecutor in the Misdemeanor Division. In that position, I was responsible for supervising six prosecutors and the prosecution of the division’s more sensitive and complex cases.
I left the District Attorney’s office in December 2001, to pursue a career in private practice. My practice focused primarily on the prosecution, or defense, of family law and civil matters, serving and representing the families and children in Galveston County.
I was honored to be the Presiding Judge in the League City Municipal Court from 2003 until 2013. I took pride in running that court in a fair, user-friendly and efficient manner.
In 2011, I was appointed to run the Juvenile Court in Galveston County. I made significant changes in court policy and procedure, which resulted in a more productive and orderly court. As a bonus, those policy changes resulted in a savings of County tax dollars.
In 2013, I was selected and appointed interim Judge of County Court at Law No. 3, when the former judge of that court was removed from the bench. County Court 3 had been severely neglected, with a significant backlog of cases which left people waiting years for justice.  During my tenure as Judge of County Court 3, I resolved a record number of cases and brought the court into a manageable condition for the next elected Judge.
In 2018, I was elected to be your Judge in County Court at Law No. 2.  County Courts at Law, such as County Court No. 2, are multi-jurisdictional courts.  The Judge in these courts handle more varied and diverse cases than other courts; therefore, it is imperative that the presiding Judge have experience in each area of law under the Court’s jurisdiction.  I have had the rare opportunity to gain substantial experience in every facet of jurisdiction that is presented in County Court 2 both as a Judge and as an attorney.
I have been honored to be entrusted to serve as a Judge in a variety of courts in our community: Municipal Judge, Juvenile Judge, Magistrate and County Court at Law Judge.  I earned a reputation for being a hard-working, dedicated and fair Judge.
Finally, I am proud to be a committed Conservative Republican. For more than 20 years, I have been active in the Galveston County Republican Party, helping to turn and keep Galveston County Republican Red. I have a lengthy history of membership and leadership in local Republican Party clubs. I share – and am dedicated to – your conservative values.
