Letter from Mary I’ve never been fearful to open my email inbox because glancing though it’s full of cancelations and reschedules, I’m at over 10 events canceled already. I texted my restaurant friends who have put their everything in and their businesses won’t survive. These are people who step up every time there is a crisis and help the community come together. They donate to your kids sports teams and your local schools and right now they need some help. I’ve never known anyone in the service industry to ask for a handout but here we all are and here is how you can help. 1. Buy a gift card. Instant money in their hands and future you will be happy that you have it. If for some reason they go out of business, don’t bash them - if you would have told them a year ago a pandemic would close their business we would ask to have some of whatever you’re having. 2. Order take out. Pick up food so they can still keep their spots. Rent doesn’t stop just because customers don’t come in. 3. Reach out to your hospitality industry friends and genuinely check on them. FaceTime them. Send them a card to let them know you’re thinking about them.... because, for us, there is no backup plan, no retirement, no 401k, no savings. We make the bare minimum to get by, no handouts necessary - we work for everything we have. We work damn hard for it too. I’m here for you too. Please reach out if you need it. This is going to get worse before it gets better. I don’t want to lose some of the good ones before we see the other side. I’m thinking about you. I’m here for you. We will make it through this, even if it’s not in the same position we started. __________________________________________________________ Update: here is the link to order meals for this week! http://www.chefmarybass.com/chefs-on-wheels.html#/ I had an idea. It started last week but after last night it really took hold. I’m going to put displaced chefs to work and I’m going to do delivery meals. Like a pop up but delivery only. $15 full meals to the consumers - chefs get $5 goal is 50 meals a day. $5 delivery in Galveston and $10 for anywhere in Galveston county. 100% of that to the driver. Drivers will be servers and bartenders. I am not only responsible for my staff and their pay, but also to my community. I want to make sure we can all continue to work. I’m not sure we will be able to do meals every day but we will do as many as possible. Meals will start tomorrow with food from my cancelled events. You can feed your family a meal or gift it to a new mom, elderly, someone you love. If you are a chef, Baker, food vendor, potential driver there is a link on my website to fill out to participate. If we sell all 50 meals a day - that’s $250 for you. Bakers can sell their items as an add on. Please visit the website at www.chefmarybass.com for more information and the forms to fill out to participate or order meals. *follow Chef Mary Bass for daily menus.
