As I sat in my chair and began to “pen my next article” I had to pause and consider that phrase. Most writing in todays society is now performed on a computer, sans pen. Maybe that should be typing, not writing as well. It’s funny how as time moves forward change happens, and yet, there are certain things that never seem to change. This simple thought lead to me think of one constant I have had in my life and that is a love for great Italian food. Not to mention my desire to eat at, and support, local businesses. Luigi’s instantly came to my mind.

Luigi’s Pizza does not boast a large footprint. It occupies a little strip with two other businesses. Despite the small size, it delivers big on flavor and choices. With a pizza menu that offers many traditional options, and just as many specialty choices you can’t go wrong with your choice of any New York style pie. If a pizza sounds good, but just doesn’t quite answer the question of what’s for lunch/dinner then you can always choose a Stromboli or a Calzone.

For myself, I can’t visit Luigi’s without an order of their delicious stuffed mushrooms.  Loaded with crab meat, baked in an alfredo sauce mixed with marinara, this dish has never failed to satisfy. My wife, however, never visits without ordering the fried calamari, and a few of my mushrooms as well. If these options aren’t your choice you don’t have to worry. They offer quite a few other appetizers as well.

If you are not an appetizer person and just want the meat and potatoes, or pasta and sauces, then Luigi’s has you covered. With over 30 dishes, both traditional and non-traditional, they have something for everyone. With Ziti, Parmigiana (Eggplant, Chicken, or Veal), Ravioli, Lasagna, and 8 different Spaghetti options we just scratch the surface of the dishes offered. In addition to the expected pasta dishes there are multiple seafood dishes that scream classic Italian faire as well. Almost as important, they do have a children’s menu. Once you finish your main meal its time for dessert and Luigi’s has you covered with multiple homemade options. I personally have never eaten a single dessert at Luigi’s. Have no fear, its not because I think they are bad. Its that I am usually so full I take one home and have it for a snack later that evening, or at midnight when I sneak into the kitchen while my wife is asleep because I don’t want to share.

A restaurant is more than just food however and I would not be honest if I didn’t mention the staff. We have never been left waiting for attention. Our waters were always refilled, our needs quickly met, and smiles always on display.  The next time you want a great Italian meal with great service I suggest you try Luigi’s.
