(Galveston, TX- June 2020) The Salvation Army announced that Corps Officers Nathanael and Lucila Doria had been promoted to the rank of Major, effective June 26, 2020. The rank of Major is bestowed on officers with 15 years of exemplary service.

Majors Nathanael and Lucila Doria are educators originally from Mexico.  In 1991, the they moved to California to support the work of The Salvation Army and spent 12 years serving in California and Arizona.  They transitioned into the role of public-school teachers in San Antonio for twelve years and returned to The Salvation Army full-time in 2017. They were assigned as commanding officers in Lubbock for two years until they received a special assignment to Galveston County. Majors Doria are responsible for all church programs and social services of The Salvation Army with facilities in Texas City and Galveston, including the emergency shelter, family shelter, case management, rental and utility assistance, grocery assistance, and a daily community meal. A Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club will open in August in Texas City, God willing.

Of his first year, Major Nathanael Doria says, “Much has been accomplished, but there is much left to do. We continue to adjust our plans as circumstances change around us. With your continued support, we will look for more ways to serve the community.”

Congratulations Majors Nathanael and Lucila Doria!

The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for 139 years in the United States.  Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food to the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disable, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.  82 cents of every dollar spent is used to carry out those service in 5,000 communities nationwide.
