I’m a mom, and I carry a gun.

I carry because I refuse to let myself or my children be a victim if there’s anything I can do to prevent it.
I am a gun owner because I choose protection over fear, I will not be scared walking through a parking lot with two children.
I will not be scared to walk to my car if I’m followed through a store, I will not be scared to go on a hike with my children in a park that’s less traveled and I WILL NOT be scared of an intruder in our own home.
I refuse to let the fear of this evil world dictate the things we do.
Just because I carry a gun does not mean I ever want to use it, I hope the only action it ever sees is the firing range but I know that if evil ever comes barging into our lives that I will be able to protect my children and that is what matters most to me.
I do understand wanting to end gun violence, nobody wants innocent lives to be lost at the hands of an insane person with a gun but I also know that this country is a lost cause when it comes to gun control.
They can try strict gun laws, they can try anything they want to better our country and gun violence but the fact remains the same: a bad guy who wants a gun will find a way to obtain it, legally or illegally.
I don’t have answers to the problems at hand for our country as a whole but what I do know is that having the right to carry is my comfort knowing that if something terrible happens I will be able to protect what needs to be protected.
I will not be a victim.
