LA MARQUE, TEXAS (December 11, 2019) – The La Marque Cemetery Board, city staff, volunteers, regional veterans organizations and La Marque Lions Club will gather to honor veterans who have been laid to rest in La Marque cemeteries as part of the annual Wreaths Across America observance at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Each year, the La Marque Cemetery Board raises funds to place wreaths on veterans’ headstones at La Marque Cemetery, the WWII monument at City Hall and Rising Star Cemetery. For 2019, La Marque Lions Club sponsored 10 wreaths. The City of La Marque’s goal is to ensure these brave Americans will never are remembered and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration. Ceremonies begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, and will include a program with La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking and La Marque Cemetery Board members. La Marque residents and others throughout Galveston County are invited to participate and help with the placement of wreaths. Volunteers should arrive by 10:30 a.m. at 1709 S Oak St, La Marque, Texas 77568. Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that, over the past ten years, has grown into a national movement of dedicated volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service but to teach the next generation about the sacrifices made for freedom.
