League City artist Jackie Liddell adds another feather to her cap as Featured Artist for October at the Galveston Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. About a dozen of her paintings will be offered for sale from noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 3-25, in the downtown Galveston gallery and on www.GalvestonArtLeague.com.
She has had a lifelong dedication to the arts through her love of painting as well as through teaching and community involvement. Liddell holds a master’s degree in fine arts. Her memberships are many: the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, a Purple Sage signature membership in the Texas Watercolor Society, an Elite Signature membership in The Watercolor Art Society of Houston and a Signature membership in the National Society of Art. Liddell also is a professional member of the Galveston Art League. She has spent more than 40 years sharing her love of art and teaching art in the Clear Creek Independent School District, the University of Houston – Clear Lake, and Alvin Community College. Liddell also has led and assisted with workshops in many cities in Texas. Her awards include being tapped as Clear Creek Secondary Teacher of the Year, receiving the Houston Mayor’s Excellency Award, and reaching the finals for a Hunting Art Prize for Texas. She got an honorable mention in the Watercolor Art Society’s International Exhibition in 2019, and she was Merchandise Award winner in the Texas Watercolor Society Exhibition. Additionally, Liddell has received many first-place awards in juried shows, including the Texas City Art Festival. She has been honored to have her paintings chosen for use in the books “Art Journey Animals, A Collection of Inspiring Contemporary Masterworks,” “Incite 2: Color Passions, The Best of Mixed Media,” and “Incite 3: The Art of Storytelling, The Best of Mixed Media.”To emphasize the significance of art for the citizens of tomorrow, Liddell volunteers as the director of the Galveston Art League’s annual student art show. She is a longtime, active member of the 106-year-old nonprofit Art League, which promotes appreciation of visual arts and art education. The all-volunteer league supports itself through varied memberships available to artists and non-artists (learn more at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com - click on “Join”); the Art League also hosts a fall fundraising gala, presents low-cost and free workshops to area residents of all ages, and holds three juried competitions annually. Galveston Art League welcomes new members and gallery guests year-round; appropriately worn facemasks are required in the gallery. As well as all the awards and distinctions listed in your article about Jackie Liddell, she is a loving and giving individual who cares deeply for her students past and present and for all of us that are fortunate enough to call Jackie our friend.
