The Galveston Art League is sponsoring an April 25-May 3, 2022, trip – called Painted Canyons of
the West – with stops at the most scenic panoramas of the American West. Everyone – nonmembers as well as members of the Art League – is invited to sign up for this eight-day trip and experience the West’s natural grandeur. The tour company is Collette, which is respected for organizing luxurious accommodations, delicious restaurant meals, and a well-planned itinerary. The trip will begin in Denver, with the first destination being Colorado National Monument, which Is considered one of the great landscapes of the American West. Traveling along the Upper Colorado Byway, next up is Moab, Utah, to explore Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Day four will end atop the sheer sandstone cliffs of Dead Horse Point State Park, an immense desert landscape of canyons, high desert woodlands, golden sunrises and sunsets, and starry night skies. The following day brings the heart of red rock country, Capitol Reef National Park. This scene is aptly described as a geologic wrinkle in the earth filled with cliffs, canyons, domes, and bridges. The overnight stop will be in Bryce, Utah, your jumping-off point to Bryce Canyon National Park. The last full day of natural wonders will be an artist’s dream: a ride in an open-air tram, winding along the Virgin River through the 2,400-foot deep, half-mile wide Zion Canyon. This will be capped with a free afternoon so that artists may paint or take photographs if they choose. On the eighth day, May 2, the tour shifts gears to Las Vegas, and a day to spend as desired. Throughout every day of this tour, expert guides will handle all travel details, shepherding everyone to top-of-the-line lodging and meals as well as the gorgeous scenery. Because many on the trip will be working artists, the guides will accommodate requests to photograph or sketch the breathtaking vistas. If you book before Oct. 25, 2021, you will save $100 per person: double, $3,499; single, $4,399; triple, $3,449. These prices include round-trip air from George Bush International Airport (IAH), air taxes and fees/surcharges, and hotel transfers. These prices do not include the trip cancellation waiver and insurance of $299 per person (which is recommended). If you purchase this insurance, Collette will issue a full cash refund for the price of the tour, right up to the day before departure. If your situation changes in the next few months, the insurance will protect you. The nonprofit Galveston Art League was founded in 1914 to promote visual arts and art education in our region. Volunteers handle all aspects of the league’s activities, from operating its gallery at 2117A Postoffice St. to hosting its low-cost educational workshops and these trips, a new outreach effort. If you have any questions about this trip, please contact the Art League at [email protected] or [email protected]. This is an 8-day tour of some of the most spectacular scenery west of the continental divide – sheer sandstone cliffs, immense desert landscapes, high desert woodlands, golden sunrises and sunsets, and dark skies filled with thousands of stars. And with travel insurance, you can get a full cash refund for the price of the tour, right up to the day prior to departure, if things change in the next few months.
