From Our Worship Ministry Associate, Jenny Skarke:
I don’t know about you, but sometimes Michael and I struggle with finding different things to do on date nights or with family/friends. It’s always either going to the movies, dinner, or board games at the house. They’re all fun things that we enjoy, but more variety would be nice once in a while!
When we moved back to the Houston area after college, we had so many more opportunities for variety! Some of our favorite things to do together is go see an opera downtown, see local schools perform their concerts or musicals, and find local bands doing shows nearby! It is such a fun way to experience new music, take us away from technology and screens for a few hours, and a great way to support the arts!
I think it even goes deeper than that. Going to concerts or shows is a family affair, especially with the littles. Looking back, it was such a huge teaching moment for my brother and I. It taught us patience, took us away from video games and phones, sparked our creativity, and created an engaging atmosphere with little distractions. It also created memories that we will never forget! (Including us reenacting the show we just saw on the fireplace hearth for our parents!!)
Going to live shows brings all generations together and really lifts the mood by creating a sense of togetherness. Everyone is
there for the same exact reason, listening to the same exact music. Although you may be hearing the same music as everyone in the
room, we are all interpreting it differently, which brings on a wholenew layer of conversation in the car ride home! Music heals and connects you with others in a way that words alone cannot!
I am so excited for the holidays for this reason especially. There are several opportunities to go see shows with your family, including right here at FBCTC! On December 10, you can bring the family to see Denver and the Mile High Orchestra and experience a whole new take on Christmas music! It will be exciting, nostalgic, and a great way to make memories with your family, friends, and other church members! You can grab your tickets now from iTickets.com or at the Welcome Desk at the church. I can’t wait to see you there!
