From Our Pastor, Robert Miller:

Dear Beloved Church Family,
Last Monday evening, I met with the deacons, asking them
to search for my successor. I informed them of my plans to retire no later than October 31, 2022, or sooner if the church could find my successor. Unlike when I began ministry, the recommended method of replacing a retiring long-term minister is by succession rather than the church enduring an extended interim.
Our Constitution and By-laws call for the deacons to nominate
twelve potential candidates to serve on the pastor search committee. Church members may nominate others by writing in other church members on the ballot form. The church will then vote on the list, with each member selecting up to seven names on the ballot. The top seven vote-getters will then serve on the committee. The deacons are asking for help in presenting the list of twelve names to the church, and they are asking members to nominate other members that they believe would do a good job on the committee. There will be forms in the bulletins the next two weeks for you to write in your suggestions.
First Baptist Church Texas City has been Anne and I’s
favorite church we have served. With all the moves, changes, and
inconveniences, we have always felt warmly supported by a great
majority of the members. We plan to stay in the area after retirement, and we plan to stay in the church. I hope to be an encourager to the next pastor, as Grayson Glass was for me.
When I became the pastor at First Baptist Church a little over
13 years ago, I desired to lead the church in three areas. One, I
hoped that we could empower our worship. Two, I expected to start
a small group ministry at our church. And last but not least, I wanted to help the church fulfill its vision of moving to the west side of Texas City. Though it took longer than I thought, I believe all three of these goals receive a “mission accomplished” status. Therefore, it is time for a new minister to come in with a new vision to take First Baptist to a higher level.
Again, words will never be enough for Anne and I to express
our sincerest gratitude for allowing us to be part of this dynamic
church. We believe First Baptist Church’s best days are ahead!
In Jesus’ Precious Name,
Robert Miller
