From Our Worship Ministry Associate, Jenny Skarke: O measureless Might, unchangeable Love, whom angels delight to worship above! When I sat down and read the text of the hymn, “O Worship the King” as I was planning our Palm Sunday service, I was struck by the depth of which it portrays our adoration for what God has given us on Earth. The use of imagery from Psalm 104 encompasses the reasons why we worship the King! Every time I sing this hymn, I imagine myself celebrating and adoring Jesus as he enters Jerusalem. (Can you even imagine what that would have been like?!) But as I have prepared my heart for this week and for Sunday, I can’t help but think about two things: 1. How Jesus has never needed to rely on earthly praise and 2. The amount of suffering and pain Jesus went through for ME AND YOU. As human beings, when we accomplish something big, we celebrate, right? We graduate from school and throw a graduation party. We start our own business and have ribbon-cutting ceremonies while the CEO receives gifts after gifts and plaque after plaque. My point is, we draw out and relish in our accomplishments. Jesus? All He wanted to do was obey the Father. Celebrating the fact that He was literally on his way to the cross to die for our sins never crossed his mind. Jesus doesn’t NEED our praises, but He DESERVES them as He remained PERFECT through trials far tougher than you or I will ever face. I encourage you to use these three days leading up to Easter Sunday to study and reflect upon the sacrifice. It is not easy to dive into the heaviness of Jesus’ story; but He paid it all, and we owe our life to him. We will never be able to understand the “measureless might” and “unchangeable love” of Jesus; but to thank Him, we worship Him! I can’t wait to celebrate with all of you this Sunday! He is Risen!
