The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Henry Trochesset wants to remind motorists that DWI patrols will be increased to save lives during the Spring Break holiday period.

The Galveston Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with TxDOT, will be participating in the impaired driving mobilization aimed at reducing crashes resulting in serious injury or death related to drunk or drugged driving.
Each year, thousands of dollars are awarded to state and local agencies which are dedicated to reducing injuries and deaths on Texas highways by strict enforcement of traffic violations and impaired driving investigations. This year is no different, and County officials report an increased number of DWI related arrests in Galveston County, including the Bolivar Peninsula.
Galveston County Sheriff’s Office officials report in 2020 Patrol Deputies arrested more than 470 suspects that were driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both alcohol and drugs.
Stats in the reduction of violent crashes attributed to alcohol impairment are still being calculated but have shown a decrease in occurrences.
The enforcement period for the Spring Break Wave will run from Friday, March 5th through Sunday, March 21st and will once again focus primarily in “hot spots” or zones where a higher volume of crashes occurred last year.
Deputies will be focusing on enforcement of Traffic Laws and Impaired Driving violations.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to make a plan ahead of time if you are going to be drinking.
Designate a driver, call for a safe ride home or stay where you are. Drivers are reminded when approaching an emergency vehicle to move out of the lane nearest the emergency vehicle and if unable to move over, slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limits.
The Galveston Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Henry Trochesset thank you for remembering to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
