DIGITALLY CONNECTING DURING SOCIAL DISTANCING LIVING WITH HISTORY AND LOOKING TO A SAFER FUTURE

3/19/2020

longer, we may find ourselves with a more contemplative time that could be directed toward productive experiences. You may be homeschooling children or chatting within adult circles, but we are all looking for ways to extend the conversation to the future when things are better.

As #galvestonhistory responds to the Coronavirus, we are taking the opportunity that social distancing gives us to connect closer to each of you. GHF will be offering numerous online learning and sharing opportunities. These will include Facebook live lectures, special Instagram takeovers, and more. Our staff and board are available to answer questions about Galveston’s architectural and maritime history, trace the lives of Galvestonians, and discuss current and upcoming historic preservation initiatives on the island and beyond. Please join us as we brace for our new “lives” and travel through unexplored territory.
INSTAGRAM TAKEOVERSOver the next month, #galvestonhistory will be opening its Instagram account to staff and special guests, to show off their favorite perspectives of Galveston Island. Follow us @galvestonhistory for daily updates!

ABOUT GALVESTON HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONGHF was formed as the Galveston Historical Society in 1871 and merged with a new organization formed in 1954 as a non-profit entity devoted to historic preservation and history in Galveston County. Over the last sixty years, GHF has expanded its mission to encompass community redevelopment, historic preservation advocacy, maritime preservation, coastal resiliency and stewardship of historic properties. GHF embraces a broader vision of history and architecture that encompasses advancements in environmental and natural sciences and their intersection with historic buildings and coastal life and conceives of history as an engaging story of individual lives and experiences on Galveston Island from the 19th century to the present day.
