Serving in the community, HWY 90 into town.
Today started with me taking a shortcut to highway 90 cuz I thought interstate might be backed up, turns out highway 90 in to Lake Charles was completely impossible with enormous poles and electrical lines covering most of the roadway.
Turn around and went back down the interstate and had no problem getting into town and went to our staging area at the Prien Lake mall.
A film crew from the BBC followed us around for a short time.
An
d then our team started showing up.
In all we had over 30 citizen volunteers join us to participate in clearing trees.
We met up with another group from Utah who is here working.
And we all collaborated.
Countless trees were cleared.
We moved our staging area to Walmart on highway 171.
We've had numerous supplies like generators water and food dropped off.
We spent the afternoon after curfew planning for tomorrow, discussing today's efforts and trying to figure out how to best use the helicopter that was donated to us.
An advance team is scouting out some areas for us to have maximum impact tomorrow, they'll join us at our rest when done.
We are now walking into the Coushatta Casino with 30 Cajun Navy volunteers to shower. More pics to come!!
