Christmas Gifts Still Needed for Many Area Children

Over 400 families have come to register 987 children for gifts for Christmas at The Salvation Army in Galveston County. The Salvation Army has been finding sponsors to buy toys for children for many years, knowing the parents will sometimes forgo paying bills in order to provide gifts for their kids. “This is a way that we help alleviate the stress of living close to the edge,” says Melanie Thornton-Lewis, Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army of Galveston County. “Especially in hard-times, like during this current pandemic, people need a little help now and then.”

 

The Angel Tree gift lists are available for “adoption” by the community at Walmart stores in Galveston County. Lists can also be picked up at The Salvation Army locations at 4801 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway in Texas City or 601 51st. Street in Galveston. Call 409-763-1691 with questions or to make arrangements for group adoptions.

 

For those who are not comfortable going out to shop, or just do not have the time, Walmart has provided a gift registry called Registry for Good. You can find it on Walmart.com with the other registries and purchase toys, clothing, gift cards and books that are age appropriate and have them shipped right to The Salvation Army. Volunteers will sort through the toys and match them up to a child with a similar request. This is a great option for an office or small group toy drive!
