Galveston Art League shares news and images on its Facebook
page. The 107-year-old league encourages you to like the page, share
its posts, and add your voice to comments.

Galveston Art League aims to make a big online splash!
This fun and enlightening organization will raise its Facebook profile big-time in
2021. A new volunteer is keeping the organization’s events, sales, and activities
front and center on the prominent social media platform. Her current posts have
announced a call to artists to compete in the February juried show hosted by
Galveston Art League as well as highlights about the league’s held-over January
sale online at www.galvestonartleague.com/jan-ms-2021-1.html.
The Galveston Art League Board encourages all art lovers and artists living in the
greater Galveston County region to “friend” the group on Facebook so that you
will be in the know about the league’s news and other art news in the area. You
can find the league on Facebook using its search function by typing “Galveston
Art League” into that box, or at this link:
www.facebook.com/GalvestonArtLeague.
The Art League is a unique organization in the county, by virtue of its being
founded in 1914 and never having had a salaried member on staff. Volunteers
handle all of the organization’s functions, from creating and running the website
(with a new one coming later this year) to hanging a new exhibit each month at
2117A Postoffice St. in downtown Galveston.
The league’s mission is to advocate for visual arts and art education. It
accomplishes this in many ways, including promoting the work of local artists
through ads and exhibits, as well as resuming – once it is again safe to do so –
the hosting of members-only preview parties and holding low- and no-cost
classes for all age groups.
The league is supported by an annual fall gala (canceled in 2020 because of the
pandemic), by contributions and grants, by commissions on art sales
(considerably lower than typical gallery commissions), city hotel-motel tax dollars,
and by memberships. Many non-artists are members who simply appreciate art
and wish to support the local art community. Member artists – some of them are
emerging artists and others are well-established – benefit from reduced costs for
displaying their works in the gallery.

The takeaway here is that the league welcomes everyone as members; you may
join at any time. Details are on www.GalvestonArtLeague.com – just click on
“Join.”
The Art League’s leaders hope you’ll join us as a member and join us on
Facebook to keep up with our activities, view some lovely art in current exhibits
and sales, and learn about other art news and opportunities. We also encourage
comments on our Facebook page that share art news of note to regional artists
and art lovers.
See you on Facebook!
