ALL ABOARD: Galveston Art League offers day trip to Menil Collection and Phoenicia Market in Houston2/27/2020 If you’re up for a bit of distinctive shopping and dining and you’d also enjoy viewing a carefully curated art collection – all in Houston – this day trip is for you. The excursion by chartered bus will originate in Galveston, and participants will be driven to Phoenicia Market and then take in the diverse exhibits of the Menil Collection. The trip will last from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 5.
The first destination will be Phoenicia Market, a one-of-a-kind establishment selling gourmet foods, produce, fresh seafood, artisan breads, rustic-style pizza, boutique wines, craft beers, premium meats and cheeses, a signature coffee and gelato bar, floral and housewares. After an hour of shopping, tour participants will enjoy lunch from any of the market’s delis, cheese cases, displays of baked goods, or from the prepared food areas. (Please visit www.phoeniciafoods.com for details about Phoenicia Market.) Next up will be the Menil museum. Spanning the prehistoric era to the present day, the Menil Collection grew out of personal and intellectual passions rather than encyclopedic ambitions. The heart of the collection is the thousands of artworks and objects gathered by John and Dominique de Menil. The 17,000 works include art from Africa, the Pacific Islands, the Americas, and the ancient world; a drawings collection; medieval and Byzantine art; and modern and contemporary art. The cost of the trip is $42, and you may register and pay at www.GalvestonArtLeague.com/workshops.html. Day trippers should meet up at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the southeast corner of the parking lot of Target, 6128 Broadway in Galveston. The Galveston Limousine bus will be parked in the same area of the lot (behind PetSmart). If you have questions, please call Nancy at 281-451-5814.
