Level Up Dodgeball Tournament & Young Men's Leadership Training - Oct. 7 The Level Up! Young Men’s Event will be held on Sat. Oct. 7th from 9 am-2 pm at the League City Community Center (400 S. Kansas, League City). Our target audience is young men aged 12-18 who are navigating a world full of challenges like peer pressure, academic stress, and the impact of social media. Following a friendly Dodgeball Tournament, the attendees will participate in fun workshops, inspiring talks, and problem-solving activities. The goal is to empower these young individuals to overcome the hurdles in their lives and become positive changemakers in their communities. By the end of the conference, they’ll have the tools and confidence to face life’s challenges head-on and make the world a better place. And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter. And I was told, "You must again prophesy about many peoples and nations and languages and kings."” Revelation 10:8-11 ESV There are things that must be done that are hard, they may leave a bitter taste in the mouth of the one who brings the message. It could be a police officer who has to go to the door of a family and tell them their teenager was killed because n a car accident. It could be the doctor telling a patient that there is nothing more that can be done, and the end of life is coming. Or, like in the passage I shared, it is the prophet that has to share the hard news from God to the people. No one likes sharing hard news, but it is a necessity in the world we live in. Why is there bad news in this world? Why doesn’t God just speak and all sickness, challenging times, and hardships go away? Perhaps it is the same reason John was told to prophesy to the people in his day, we are a rebellious and hard hearted people who desire our own will and direction rather than to walk in obedience to God. God offers grace and mercy in abundance, but when we choose another path, he will not honor our rebellion. Obedience to God, and surrender to his will brings the sweet taste of honey, let’s stop settling for the bitter taste of disobedience. First Baptist Church of Texas City
· From Our Family Pastor, Dennis Johns: Integrity matters. Have you ever been on the wrong side of a situation or cause and made a strong stance only later in life to have your beliefs change? I think of what it might have been like for Paul (also known as Saul) in the early days following his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. In fact, Ananias was quite nervous about being the one “called” to go and minister to Saul. The disciples in Jerusalem were afraid as well until Barnabas took a stand for him. I would imagine that even with Barnabas’ help, it might have taken some time to truly trust Paul. Can you imagine how Paul’s decisions and the way he previously inflicted pain affected his relationships with others who were seeking to follow Jesus? Can you imagine how much time and energy it took to build trust? Paul was radically changed by his encounter with Jesu, and his transformation was incredible. He began to walk among Jesus’ followers as a different person; his actions were the true testimony of that transformation. He later delivers a message to the Philippians that encapsulates his journey of renewal: 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 New International Version Paul’s words reveal a maturity of understanding in that what we put in our minds determines what comes out as words and actions. Christ had so radically changed Paul’s actions through renewing his mind that he was even able to say “whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me—put it into practice” – Wow, now that is integrity. Following his conversion, Paul did not let anything stand in the way of living and sharing the Good News of Jesus. He saw it as imperative, absolute; there was no other way. He didn’t let misfortune or hardship derail God’s intention and purpose for his life. May the example of Paul’s integrity encourage and guide us to further obedience to God’s plan for our journey… think about such things. Tim Franklin · “Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever."” Revelation 11:15 ESV I spent a number of years in a volunteer fire department; one of the things that was always interesting to see was the response to the lights and sirens when we were in route to an emergency. Some people would do everything in their power to clear the way and to allow us to get to our destination. Then there were those who could care less who we were or where we were going, in fact there where times they purposely did something that would try to interfere with us. I think in some ways that will be the same types of response people will have when the trumpet sounds for the return of Christ. When Christ returns I believe the same kinds of attitudes in the hearts of people will be revealed. There will be those who will stop everything they are doing to watch, and rejoice at his coming. But there will be others who will deny, will try to delay the inevitable, and scream that he has no right to take his place of authority. But try as they may, Christ will take his rightful place and when he does every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that he is Lord. I will be among those who greet him with joy, I hope you will be with me. It’s not too late to ask him into your life, today can be your day of salvation. From Our Worship Pastor, John Talley: Does anyone really like change? I admit that I do, most of the time. I think we are ALL ready for a change in the weather! The “cool” (see what I did there?) part is that GROWTH requires change. Are you ready? Sunday, September 17th, is National Back to Church Day! Why not use this to invite a friend or neighbor? That Sunday in worship we are adding back collecting the offering during worship. This provides opportunity for parents to teach kids about giving, makes it easier for guests to place the connect card in the plate being passed and it allows the act of giving to happen within the worship service. Also, during our response song after the message we will have men and women available for prayer at the back of the worship center every Sunday. Wednesdays beginning September 20th adult opportunities include Deep Dive Discipleship w/ Pastor Pierce in the fellowship hall and Understanding the Times w/ Jerry Williams in B109, both 6:00 – 7:00pm. These will replace Prayer and Praise. Worship Choir rehearsals begin that night @ 7:00pm in the Worship Suite. Youth JAM will continue 6:00–8:00pm and Kid JAM 6:00-7:00pm, with extended childcare to 8:00pm for adults serving in Youth or singing in the Worship choir. You know how sometimes you take a chance, and it doesn’t quite work out? Our Membership Management system is changing… Our current system was known for having a great and affordable church app, and on that they delivered! However, everything hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. Some of our ministries have been using Planning Center for years. After they became the industry standard for worship ministry, they’ve expanded to total church management. We’ve thoroughly investigated their other systems and even met with a local church that’s using it and questioned their staff extensively. We are more than ready to change to a system that fully meets our needs including – kid’s check in, money management and an app that includes a member directory! In the directory, you’ll be able to customize how much contact information you’d like to share. September is the transition time, and by October 1 we hope to have it up and running completely with Planning Center. We’ll be sharing the progress and when you can get the app and change your giving from the current system. Thank you for your patience and encouragement in all the changes! |
