On Thursday, Valero Refinery did an amazing job volunteering at M. I. Lewis Social Service Center for A Day of Service. Their incredible volunteer work consisted of painting and touching up the walls at M.I.Lewis. This group of volunteers showed dedication to giving back to the community and it is truly inspiring. We are so grateful for all of their hard work. Your generosity and commitment will continue to make a positive impact. #ShoutoutSaturday Hello Humanitarians! Thank you for all of your consistent support! If you are able to attend this month, or any month after, it would be fantastic to have you join us! The ROSC consist of 3 separate meetings beginning from 11:30 and ending at to 2:30. We have had to expand our meeting hours due the overwhelming response and interest of volunteers such as yourself. The 1st meeting, is our Subcommittee meeting, which takes place at The Coffee Connection Coffee, located in the mainland crossing at, 9300 Emmett F Lowry Expy #222, Texas City, TX 77591. Our 2nd meeting is our business meeting. Reading of the minutes, Old business, New business, Officer reports, located at 9702 Emmett F Lowry Expy, Texas City, TX 77591 in the TX/LM Chamber of Commerce. Our 3rd and last meeting also located at 9702 Emmett F Lowry Expy, Texas City, TX 77591, in the TX/LM Chamber of Commerce, is our Guest Speaker meeting. Whereas the guest speaker represents his or her organization or agency for an hour so as to have a platform opportunity to share their own available recovery resources that network together, with other resource providers. We choose to be apart of the solutions and not apart of the problems that we see going on around us on a daily bases . THE GC ROSC is a unique, unincorporated, organization, made up of a body of special volunteers like you. We believe that as a positive and productive society, we can no longer "solely" depend on Federal, State, County and Municipal governments to take care of the seemingly endless, existing social crises that so many in need face everyday, without our help and assistance. We The People, by community intervention, must be accountable and responsible for our future that is undoubtedly our children. Begin with them, to build a better future for everyone. At the TC/LM Chamber Business meeting and the guest speaker meeting, there will be water, fruit, vegetable, cheese and meat trays served free. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me. Hope to see you there! God Bless! · Last night our community came together to increase awareness of Child Abuse Prevention month. We gathered outside the Galveston County Justice Center and lit (turned on) candles and placed them around the fountain, representing the children in our community that have experienced abuse and neglect. The Honorable Judge Darring, Chad Smith of Galveston Co-Care, and our own Connie Ricketts addressed those gathered with words of inspiration and determination. Torrina Harris recited an original poem and children's choir Fanfare Music Academy's angelic voices filled the air. We are so thankful for their dedication and sharing their gifts with us and to all those that were in attendance. Every Child Has A Chance -it's YOU! If you'd like to learn more about becoming a volunteer advocate or to sponsor a virtual blue ribbon, please visit our website CASAgalveston.org #CASAgalveston #becomeaCASA #volunteergalveston Big Brothers Big Sisters Gulf Coast is with Karen Kusnerik Owen. · Please take a moment to help us thank our amazing Board Member Karen Owen for her continued support! Karen is UT Austin College of Pharmacy graduate and retired Pharmacist of 33 years. She is also a Galveston BOI, who loves Boating, (but not fishing because she gets seasick), being out in nature. dining with family and friends, listening to music, or reading a good book. But mostly, she enjoys traveling and sightseeing almost anywhere! Karen had begun volunteering for some non-profit organizations in the Galveston area when she was in her late 20’s. That eventually led her to Big Brothers Big Sisters Gulf Coast where she has served on the board for 13 years!! Karen explains that her continued dedication for BBBS is the MOST rewarding. “To see the positive difference, you can make in just ONE child’s life is by far the greatest reward one could have. Imagine the sense of joy you feel when you know that you helped make a difference in the MANY young lives that BBBS has served here in our community. I have heard some of the many success stories of LITTLES that have graduated from school/college and have gone on to do great things. To see and hear of these at-risk children that succeed is indeed heartwarming and gratifying! I really enjoy collaborating with this awesome group of board of directors to see that the mission of BBBSGC is accomplished! The giving of your time to others is the means to a new beginning and a brighter ending for these children!” - Karen Owen #bbbsgulfcoast #DefendPotential ABOUT US
