Happy 36th Anniversary to A Muppet Family Christmas TV Special!
#jimhenson #muppets #Christmas 🎄❄️⛄️ (1987) Fun Fact: Though this special may seem easily found online, it is actually quite the opposite. The original television airing had numerous scenes and songs removed from US video release due to the rights of characters and franchises being dispersed amongst different companies. The Muppets no longer share affiliation with Sesame Street and The Fraggles lay dormant, therefore this special cannot air on television without obtaining licenses and the home video releases have to be heavily altered to avoid any legal disputes. In other countries the original uncut version can be found but still incredibly rare and has sold for upwards of a hundred dollars through online auctions.

Ives was a late casting decision for the special by the producers, who originally intended the actor who voiced Yukon Cornelius to sing the songs. Lucky for us, a last-minute switch was made to bring in Burl, which is why Sam the Snowman is never seen interacting with the other characters because his parts were created after the rest of the scenes were mostly finished. The show was broadcast for the first time in 1964, but it suffered from a glaring plot hole. The protagonists never made good on their promise to return to the Island of Misfit toys. This travesty did not go unnoticed as thousands of concerned citizens deluged the network with letters demanding a resolution. So, Rankin Bass created a new ending (spoiler alert!) that shows Santa flying to the island and rescuing the Misfit Toys for distribution to loving children around the world. The revised show aired the next year and every year since. In order to fit the new scene in, something had to be cut, so they nixed a segment in which explained that the object of Yukon Cornelius’ desire was actually a Peppermint Mine – which vindicates his bizarre ice-axe-licking fetish. He was tasting for peppermint and not silver and gold. A Very Cirque Christmas Carol is feeling inspired. · Meet Susan Huntington: A Journey from Math to Aerial Arts Susan's journey began in sunny San Diego - talking her way into a dance class at the tender age of two, despite the minimum age requirement of three. This early passion laid the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of artistic expression through dance and aerial performance. From her early years, Susan dedicated herself to mastering various dance forms and exploring aerial arts. Her repertoire included silks, harness, lyra, cube, trapeze, net, rope, and pole, showcasing her versatility and adventurous spirit. While at Purdue University, Susan majored in Mathematics and minored in Dance, Physics, and Astronomy. She combined her love for dance and science by performing with the Purdue Contemporary Dance Company and the Higher Ground Dance Company. Susan’s trajectory changed when she interned at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, sparking her interest in the cosmos. This experience inspired Susan to pursue a Master's in Astronomy, focusing on Exoplanets at San Diego State University. After her academic endeavors, Susan moved to Austin in 2015. There, she worked as a data scientist at Apple Inc. while collaborating with various dance groups such as Redefined Dance Company, The Dance Project, Illuzia, and Blue Lapis Light. Susan developed the persona of Suzie in the Sky as she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a professional dancer. Her captivating performances have won the hearts of audiences, establishing her as a prominent figure in the world of aerial arts and dance. But Susan's journey didn't stop there. In pursuit of adventure, she left her corporate job at Apple Inc. and, with her husband, converted a bus into their home, becoming full-time travelers and explorers. In the past year, Susan had an incredible artistic journey, performing with Golden Dawn Arkestra in Austin and New Orleans, captivating audiences at the Envision Music Festival in Costa Rica, and showcasing her aerial artistry at the Sonic Bloom Music Festival in Colorado. Susan's story unfolds as she passionately follows her dreams, pursuing artistic fulfillment. In A Very Cirque Christmas Carol, Suzie in the Sky is the beautiful ghost of the circus past, leading us through time to see the magic of circus traditions, starting with her unique aerial silk performance.
