Sorry for the delays in the updates, I have been going non-stop and haven’t been able to keep up. So a recap of the past week and a half.
The first CERT team has graduated. I believe we had a total of 8 trained for Santa Fe. Looking to have one more this summer. Would be great to have about 15 more with the upcoming hurricane season. The benefits of CERT is those trained will have access to assist the City and first responders. It is very crucial to be the training also for FEMA reimbursements as well. You would be able to assist with shelters, supplies, responders support , etc, for our community.
I have been going to leadership meetings weekly in preparation of May 17,18 for the city and the school. There will be info shared here, on the city website and school website as well as letters and emails. I will just say it, gonna be a long weekend. Please pray for all of us here in Santa Fe as we get closer to the Day of Remembrance.
Had a council meeting last week. I am proud to say the stop arm program has been approved. Background on that is Mr. McKinney reached out to me for school bus safety. I called in Chief Meadows and we met a couple times looking at the program, logistics, etc. Took a couple months to get it ready to present to council. They voted unanimously to approve the program. What it does is that cameras will be on the arms of the bus that has the stop sign. If a driver decides to ignore the stop sign and drive past it(either side of the highway) then a picture is taken and a citation is issued. So here is my warning, if you see a bus stopped and flashing then please stop. Doesn’t matter what side of the road, you must stop even on 646, Highway 6, 1764 on both sides.
Monday I had a conference call with Congressman Weber’s office to discuss issues and what help at the fed level Santa Fe needs.
Tuesday attended the Easter Egg hunt at the resiliency center. Was a great evening, fun to see all the kiddos. I did miss the Easter egg hunt this past Saturday at the park. I do apologize, I had to coach my daughters volleyball team.
Yesterday had an ice cream social with the interact kids at the Highschool. It’s an annual event we started and emotional for me. Some of the kids started 3 years ago with me and now they are about to graduate and go out and conquer the world. It’s amazing to see these young ladies mature and they are so smart and have such beautiful hearts and souls.
Today is the candidate forum. I will be there after my volleyball game. I encourage everyone to go and listen to those running for City council. I remember mine a year ago, i was nervous but prepared. Good luck to all of those running.

So we are one month away from you know what. Do a good deed today and every day. Something simple as holding a door or even a simple smile. Let’s spread the love all month and show the world what one year looks like. Remember we have the option to tell our story or let someone else tell it for us. I choose to tell mine, how about you. Those who need help or are having issues, please please please see the resiliency center, or someone you trust. We are all in this together. I myself have been going to counseling. Nobody is immune to it. So let’s rise up and do this together. I will see y’all around town and if you need anything feel free to reach out. God Bless Santa Fe.
