Bubba and the Giant Candy Corn

Down in Brazoria County, where the pumpkins grow big and the mosquitos grow bigger, lived a boy named Bubba Ray Jenkins.
Bubba loved two things more than anything else in this wide ol’ state: Halloween… and candy. Every year, he’d dress up like a cowboy vampire, grab the biggest pillowcase he could find, and set a new record for the most candy collected in one night.
But this year, something strange was cookin’ in Aunt Pearl’s pumpkin patch.
Aunt Pearl was famous for her pumpkin pies, but when she went out to check her patch one October morning, she found something that wasn’t a pumpkin at all.
It was a candy corn—but not just any candy corn.
This thing was taller than Bubba’s pickup truck, wider than the water trough, and it smelled like pure sugar magic.

“Bubba Ray!” Aunt Pearl hollered.
“You get out here and see what your Halloween dreams done cooked up!”

Bubba came running with his lasso.
“Mercy me,” he said, his eyes sparkling like a carnival.
“That’s the biggest candy corn in the whole state of Texas!”

And Bubba got an idea.
He roped that candy corn like a rodeo calf, hitched it to his old red wagon, and decided he’d roll it down to the town’s Halloween Festival.
But the candy corn had other plans.
The second Bubba started pulling, the giant sweet treat bounced, rolled, and launched him off his feet like a hay bale in a windstorm.

Down the dirt road they went—past the feed store, through Mrs. Jenkins’ rose bushes, across the creek, and straight toward the festival stage. Folks screamed and cheered as Bubba held on for dear life, hollering, “Somebody get me a bigger lasso!”
When the candy corn finally stopped, it sat right in the middle of the costume contest stage. Bubba stumbled off, dizzy but grinning from ear to ear.
Mayor Watson handed him a blue ribbon the size of a dinner plate.
“Son,” he said, “you didn’t win ‘Best Costume’… but you sure won ‘Biggest Snack in Texas.’”

That night, the whole town carved pieces off the candy corn, toasted marshmallows over bonfires, and told stories until the stars came out.
And every Halloween since, Bubba checks Aunt Pearl’s pumpkin patch… just in case another sweet surprise is growing.
