Interested in joining an organization dedicated to recreating aspects of Viking culture in the modern age?
Want to learn full contact fighting with real steel weapons without LARP or Fantasy aspects involved? Or maybe explore other areas of Viking Age life, including fine craftsmanship, reconstructing clothing and gear and running authentic encampments? Join the Vikings of Vinland! We focus on living history and historical re-enactment of the Viking Age, the year 793-1066 AD, with an equal respect placed on both combatants on the field of battle and artisans and members of the hearth. As modern day Vikings we are dedicated to building one another up both on and off the field and uphold a spirit of teamwork and genuine brotherhood. We support individuality and promote family/children involvement at both training and events. We encourage each member to work towards a balance in each individual’s life in regards to family time, physical activity, and gathering together for social events. We are a non-political organization open to all creeds, ethnicities and genders. All our members share a genuine interest and passion for the Viking Age and put a lot of effort into the historical authenticity of their work. At the same time we are 21st century people, creating a modern viking community for today. The Saga of Vinland tells of a legendary expedition and colonization of North America . It is from here that we take our inspiration. Vikings of Vinland is a 501 (c) (3) registered nonprofit organization who routinely displays living history encampments at local Renaissance Faires, schools and festivals looking for educational demos, Viking reenactment and steel combat demonstrations set in the Viking age. Formed in 2014 as the only living history organization in the state purely focused on full contact Eastern Style fighting and is currently the largest Viking Age living history organization in the US. We provide an educational medium used by living history museums, historic sites, heritage interpreters, and schools as a historical reenactment group to educate the public on Viking-age culture and society, such as clothing styles, pastimes and handicrafts, or to simply convey a sense of the everyday life of this time period. CAN ANYONE JOIN? Vinland is welcoming to anyone who has an interest and a love for Viking history. We recreate what life was like in the Viking age. We welcome all ages, races, ethnicities, and genders. ARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH A RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION? No. As mentioned before, we welcome all people of all religious beliefs. Part of the Viking culture was strong belief in the Norse Gods and while we do learn and practice some of what the Vikings did, we are not a religious organization. IS YOUR ORGANIZATION AFFILIATED WITH ANY HATE GROUPS? Absolutely not. Race plays no part in being a modern day Viking and love for living history. Vikings traded and merged with many cultures. We accept all and have no tolerance for ignorance within our organization. DO YOU LARP? No. You do not create a persona, have stats or leveling. You are yourself portraying an impression of what you would have looked like in a specific era and region within the Viking age based on historical and archeological records. We are creating daily life of the past in the present by performing reenactments or living history as modern day men and women. HOW DO I FIND A GROUP? In Texas we are located currently in Austin, San Antonio, Kerrville and Houston. Each city has weekly training, please see our events section for further details on attending or contact us on our Facebook page.
