Q & A with Officer Alex Sharp You started your law enforcement career not too long after graduating high school, what made you choose this as a career? Seeing my uncle Glenn Sharp going to work for the Dickinson Police Department when I was a kid is probably one of my main reasons for wanting to join law enforcement. I have been able to experience a lot in my law enforcement career, but I am happy to be back in my hometown. I actually have the badge number assigned to me that my Uncle Glenn was assigned when he started his career here with DPD. The U. S. Border Patrol sounds like a very challenging and demanding job, what was it like? Very challenging, demanding, but also very rewarding. What brought you back home to Dickinson? I decide to leave the U.S. Border Patrol and come back home for my daughter. Being back home allows me to spend much needed time with my baby girl. What interested you in becoming a K9 Officer? Did you get to pick Ares? You obviously work well together, but being together all the time, do you ever get on each other's nerves? I have always been interested and motivated in working to get illegal narcotics off our streets. A K9 is one of the most important tools that law enforcement has, to combat the illegal drug problems that every city in this nation has. Plus, I love dogs. I did get to pick K9 Ares as my partner, I fell in love with him as soon as I saw him. We definitely both get on each other’s nerves every now and then, but in the end, we still work great together. People would love to greet you and see Ares, is there anything people should know before approaching Ares? Just ask beforehand. Officer A. Sharp, we are glad to have you back in Dickinson, thank you for all you do, you are definitely an asset to the community.
