Higher Up Texas The HUT Phase 2 Huddle of Directors took a professional development trip in to Houston to have a day filled with mentorship, networking, culture, and history!
The Huddle started by visiting Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. The HUTs were given a tour of the energy investment and merchant banking firm, had breakfast, and broke out into small group mentoring sessions with the staff of TPH. HUTs not only gained a wealth of knowledge from their TPH mentors, but they made connections and have expanded their networks even further. TPH partnered with Volunteer Houston to make 55 Hug-A-HUT packages for our HUT Phase 2 members. Thank you TPH and Volunteer Houston for such a special visit! Next stop, the HOLOCAUST MUSEUM HOUSTON to have an educational tour provided by Amy Frake. HUTs were able to view the Human Rights: A Call to Action exhibition, the Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg exhibition, and Amy Frake guided HUTs on a tour of the main exhibition, Bearing Witness: A Community Remembers. Amy did a wonderful job teaching HUTs about human rights and the more we know the more we can prevent something like to Holocaust from happening again. Next stop, was the office of the Former President of the United States, George H W Bush. The George and Barbara Bush Foundation provided a tour of the offices as well as historical events and personal stories of their time with the former President and First Lady. HUTs were able to sit at the actual desk that the President worked in for 20+ years. As a whole, our group felt honored to get to know the late president on such a personal level through his incredible staff. Last stop, Starbucks for a quick pick-me-up before heading back to Dickinson! We thank TPH, Volunteer Houston, The Holocaust Museum Houston, Amy Frake, and the George and Barbara Bush Foundation for such an unforgettable experience.
