Green sea turtles
Locally can be found in the back bays of Galveston and other barrier islands.
They are called green sea turtles because their cartilage and fat have a green tint.
Green sea turtles primary food source is sea grass. These turtles are crucial to the health of sea grass beds by maintaining growth and contributing to seed disbursal.
