Bottom Line
There is a Slight to Enhanced Risk for severe weather Thursday evening and into early Friday morning. All severe weather hazard types are possible.
What Has Changed Since Previous Email?
• The Slight Risk (threat level 2/5) for severe weather has been removed from the coast leaving the coast in a Marginal Risk (threat level 1/5).
Overview
• A cold front will move across Southeast Texas Thursday evening and into early Friday morning .
• Strong to severe storms are possible with all hazards possible (large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes).
• The primary window for severe weather will be from 6pm Thursday to 12am Friday, but the timing of this could change as we get closer to the event and weather models become more accurate.
• Therefore, most of Southeast Texas is in a Slight Risk (threat level 2/5) for severe weather while areas north of College Station and Livingston are in an Enhanced Risk (threat level 3/5).
Marine
• Conditions remain favorable for intermittent sea fog through Thursday.
• Ahead of the front, winds and seas will quickly build to Caution as early as tonight and Advisory criteria as early as Thursday afternoon.
• By Thursday evening, from 6pm to 12am, winds and seas quickly build with occasional gusts near Gale possible for our offshore waters. Seas will build to 8-9ft for our offshore waters and 7ft for our nearshore waters.
• Behind the frontal passage early Friday morning, offshore winds will quickly fill in behind it and Small Craft Advisory conditions are expected to continue.
• In addition, strong offshore winds on Friday could lead to Low Water Advisory conditions during low tide on Friday.
