· From Our Worship Ministry Associate, Jenny Skarke: In the last 12 years of my life, there have been a lot of changes, and not all of them were easy to navigate. I moved high schools for my junior year, I went to three different colleges, I moved a total of eight times, I got married, had a baby, and had several different jobs in between all of that. Did I question God during some of these changes? Yes; but the more I went through, the more I learned to put it all in God’s hands. Abraham admirably chose to leave behind everything that he loved behind to found a new nation and live in a totally different culture. Mary not only brought a new life into the world who just so happened to be the Messiah, but then witnessed his crucifixion. Can you imagine the pain, confusion, and doubt both of them felt through those transitions? Whether you are going through loss, a change of career, a change in your relationships, bringing a new life into the world, or a change in leadership, they all bring their own challenges that can easily consume you. Abraham and Mary unquestioningly chose to obey and trust God, but that’s not always as easy as it sounds. Lamentations says that “Because of the Lord’s love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.” Sometimes I think we can be quick to rush people, including ourselves, through these transitions which contribute to the anxiety we can experience. Grief should not be rushed. Transitioning into a new career should not be rushed. Adjusting to life with a newborn should not be rushed. Give others grace, and give yourself grace. Encourage them, and remind them of God’s unconditional love. Psalm 102:27 says, “But you are the same, and your years will have no end.” Change is hard. Seasons in our lives will always be changing, but we can count on God to remain a constant through it all.
