First Baptist Church of Texas City
From Our Pastor, Robert Miller: October 9, 2022, will be my last Sunday as pastor of First Baptist Church. Last October, I announced to the church my intention to retire by the end of October 2022 or until the church found another pastor. I have set up the date because, on October 10, 2022, I am leading a trip to Greece to trace the Second Missionary journey of the Apostle Paul. That means I will be out on two Wednesdays and a Sunday. Plus, it would mean I would get off a plane from Greece and have to preach while recovering from jetlag. I am not as young as I used to be. So, with that in mind, I believe it best to set my retirement date up to October 9, 2022. I appreciate all the kind words many have expressed about missing my preaching. However, I am very excited about the next pastor. Ecclesiastes says, "There is a time for everything." God has used me at First Baptist to do some wonderful things. However, I believe it is time for First Baptist to change its focus to emphasize reaching out and discipleship more than what I have been able to accomplish with all the changes we have made to get to this point. I am convinced God has just the right pastor in mind for us. I am impressed with our Pastor Search Committee and their approach to searching for my successor. I will be our next pastor's biggest fan and encourager.
