First Baptist Church of Texas City

From our Children's Minister Meschel Hara:
Last week I had the privilege of taking a group of 22 students and 4 sponsors to preteen camp. We attended camp at Pineywoods Baptist Encampment in Woodlake, Texas near Corrigan, off of Interstate 59. The facilities and grounds at Pineywoods are beautiful and well kept. They have tons of amenities for our campers to enjoy such as a zip line, BIG swing, swimming pool, gaga ball, fishing, canoeing, ping pong, and a playground.
We also had one of our youth students, Asher Cotharn, volunteer as part of the recreation team. He will serve as part of the rec staff for all three sessions of preteen camp from June 22 – July 2. It’s a great opportunity for these teens to use and develop their leadership skills as they lead the preteens in recreational games throughout their rec time at camp. They also help with serving in the dining hall along with many other responsibilities. The rec staff is open for students ages sixteen to twenty years old to apply to serve each year.
Our theme at camp was Salt & Light. Our students focused on Matthew 5:13-16 where Jesus calls us to be the salt and light of the world and were challenged to go home and be the salt and light at home, school and wherever they go. They participated in corporate worship with 900 other preteens and sponsors. What a sweet sound it was to hear so many engaged in worship!
We also heard from a missionary each day who is helping organize relief efforts in the Ukraine for war refugees. The mission offering that was collected will be used to fund van trips from the Poland border to a help center and to host and provide for families as well as for a summer camp experience for refugee children.
Thank you for praying for us while we were at camp and for providing us the opportunity to go to camp and grow closer to our Lord and Savior.
