Recently, officers were called by the parents of an adult son who was experiencing a mental health episode and injuring himself.
Arriving officers found the son barricaded in his room.
Officer Stubbs showed great restraint, and instead of immediately breaching the door, he positioned himself in a safe position to begin a dialogue with the individual in distress.
Officer Stubbs then spoke to the subject through the door, keeping a calm and reassuring demeanor.
Officer Stubbs was able to build rapport with this distressed individual and gain his confidence. After a brief time of speaking to this individual, Officer Stubbs was able to distance the individual from his weapon, get him to open the door, and voluntarily seek the mental health treatment that he desperately needed.
Officer John Stubbs used his skill set, compassion, dedication, and excellent police work to intervene in a difficult situation to provide help to a young man experiencing a critical mental health crisis.
Through Officer Stubbs’ due diligence, this individual was removed from a dangerous situation to receive the help that he needed.
​ Officer Stubbs’ actions on this day were a great testament to himself and the men and women of the League City Police Department.
