“Call Your Senator(s) Today & Tell Them to Vote YES on S. 326, the Elizabeth Dole Veterans Programs Improvement Act of 2023” Source: DAV National Commander Joseph Parsetich and Auxiliary National Commander Darlene Spence We need you to take action NOW and urge your Senator(s) to keep our promise to America’s veterans and their families with swift passage of S. 326, the Elizabeth Dole Veterans Programs Improvement Act of 2023, when this important legislation is brought up for a vote in the Senate. What Happened: On April 26, the Senate held a cloture vote to consider S. 326, the Veterans Programs Improvement Act of 2023. This legislative package of bills previously passed out of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee with unanimous consent and is supported by a vast majority of veterans and supporters. DAV CAN members sent more than 17,000 emails to their Senators asking for their support, yet it appears that some lawmakers chose the path of polarizing politics at the expense of our nation’s veterans and voted NO on consideration of the legislative package. S. 326 was amended and renamed the Elizabeth Dole Veterans Programs Improvement Act of 2023. It contains provisions from the same five bills—listed below. All of these bills are in alignment with at least one DAV resolution. - S. 106, the Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act (Resolution Nos. 014 and 059) - S. 141, the Elizabeth Dole Home Care Act (Resolution No. 427) - 185, the Native American Direct Loan Improvement Act of 2023 (Resolution No. 251) - S. 216, the RESPECT Act of 2023 (Resolution Nos. 059, 082 and 427) - S. 326, the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act of 2023 (Resolution No. 128) What the legislation would do: This legislative package would have a profound impact on the lives of veterans and their families, helping to: - improve outreach and assistance about veterans benefits and services; - expand long-term care options for aging veterans so they can live more independently with respect and dignity; - create better home loan options for Native American veterans; and - study the effects of medicinal cannabis on veterans with chronic pain or PTSD. DAV supports this legislation and thanks DAV members and supporters for their advocacy efforts last month, but we need your support again. DAV
