GALVESTON ISLAND HUMANE SOCIETY ANNOUNCES JOSH HENDERSON AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Henderson Brings 15 Years of Animal Welfare Experience to Position
GALVESTON, TX – September 19, 2022 – The Galveston Island Humane Society is thrilled to introduce Josh Henderson as the organization’s new Executive Director.
Henderson has a long career in animal welfare and animal services.
He has served in roles with both the Galveston County Health District Animal Services and Galveston Police Department, most recently as their Animal Services Unit Supervisor.
He is a certified Animal Control Officer and Texas Certified Animal Cruelty Investigator.
As an integral part of Galveston’s animal community, Henderson responded to thousands of calls from citizens and investigated violations of local and state law regarding animals.
He has served on the City of Galveston’s Animal Services Advisory Committee and the Moody Gardens Animal Welfare Committee.
Henderson has also managed the Galveston Bay Injured Bird Response Team, assisting with transportation and rehabilitation efforts for approximately 500+ birds annually.
He is also responsible for the development of the City of Galveston's Coyote Management and Research plan.

“Josh brings a tremendous amount of animal care experience paired with a love for our island community and their pets,” remarked David Rogers, GIHS President.
“We know he will bring positive change and continue our mission of caring for and homing our city’s unwanted and homeless animals.”

The Galveston Island Humane Society, Inc., formed in 1981, is a 501c3, non-profit organization.
As an “open admission” shelter for Galveston Island, we accept all homeless pets, even when the shelter is full.
In a city with a high number of homeless pets, which could lead to needless euthanasia, our programs work diligently to reduce the number of pets in our community.
We are committed to assuring that adoptable pets are kept available until they are placed in a family or transferred to a partner organization.

About  Galveston Island Humane Society

The Galveston Island Humane Society, Inc., formed in 1981, is a 501c3, non-profit organization. Originally created by concerned citizens to rescue animals from “the pound,” much has changed. Today we have a humane shelter, providing care for lost or homeless pets, reuniting pets with families, and promoting the adoptions of pets needing homes.
As an “open admission” shelter for Galveston Island we accept all homeless pets, even when the shelter is full. In a city with a high number of homeless pets, which could lead to needless euthanasia, our programs work diligently to reduce the numbers of pets in our community. We are committed to assuring that adoptable pets are kept available until they are placed in a family or transferred to a partner organization.
Our shelter is managed by a board of directors, caring staff and active volunteers who work to provide for the pets in our care along with creating and managing community programs that will positively impact our shelter. We hope you will join us in our mission to make sure that every pet on Galveston Island can live out his or her life in a loving home.
