The City of Santa Fe and County’s numbers continue to go down slightly. Thank you for your continued diligence in following COVID-19 Precautions.
Appraisals: I owe everyone an apology, I failed to report the results of last week’s letter to the Governor. We received 1125 signatures to accompany our letter to the Governor, both the letter and signatures were forwarded to the Governor by fax and regular mail on Friday. We truly thank you for your support on this matter.
I was told that the Governor was asked about home appraisal values in an interview and he didn’t understand that the appraisals were done before the COVID-19 outbreak; and therefore, thought values would go down this appraisal cycle. That footage was removed before I was able to watch it, so I can’t validate the statement.
Please contest your appraisal with the Galveston County Central Appraisal District. I have no faith that the Governor nor the State Legislature will do anything to protect the Citizens of Texas from an undue tax burden caused by COVID-19.
What is next: You need to communicate with your State Representatives that you want real tax reform next year! Call, email, or write them to make it clear you want real reform next year. Then show up in November for elections, you must show them that you mean business by voting. A huge voter turnout will let them know that we mean business this time.
CENSUS! Did I just mention CENSUS?! Please do the Census, the whole way our Federal Government is designed and funded is based on numbers of people, not citizens, people that occupy, Cities, Counties, and States! Please, if you haven’t gone online and done the Census, do so, and then tell your family and friends how easy it is and ask them to do it too!
Galveston County cases 10 May: 685 Cases, 256 Active, 239 self-quarantine, 17 Hospitalized, & 29 Deaths.
13 MAY: 691 Cases, 256 Active, 237 self-quarantine, 14 Hospitalized, & 30 Deaths.
Santa Fe / Algoa: 24 Cases, 20 Recovered (4 active)
DSHS Update 14 May 2020
• Texas has had an increase of active cases by over 4000 cases this week since Monday. This is a concerning number as we have 18,148 active cases which means the virus is still very active in our communities.
• Texans must continue to actively protect themselves from COVID-19 especially wearing masks in public and frequent hand washing. Staying at home is still the smartest and best practice to protect yourself.
• Over 600K test done to date in Texas.
The simple truth in numbers on this Virus: The state of Texas has conducted 623,284 tests, of which 43,851 people were positive, and an expected 24,487 re-tests for validated recovered people. So 623,284 - 24,487 = 598,797 first time tests. With 43,851 reported cases divided by 598,797 first time tests = 7.3% positive rate or 96.7% of the people whom thought and truly believed they had COVID-19 didn’t have it. That is how many flu, cold, respiratory illnesses, allergy, etc. related issues that are still present out there and the reason things are so confusing.
You may have to re-read the above paragraph a few times to have it really hit you why this is all so difficult of an issue, at the end of the day Texas has had 1,216 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
