Premiering for the first time in Galveston “For the Good of the Family” a drama written by Texas Playwriting Hall of Fame author, George Douglas Lee, will be performed for the benefit of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Galveston County.
The play begins with a joyful family reunion. Suddenly the reunion becomes a fraught affair as family members rehash living with a profoundly disabled sister. The discord leads to an astonishing revelation. With a cast of local talent, director Ruth Rickman focuses the actors on a family trying to embrace their future, but the tentacles of the past won’t let them go.
Connie Rickets, executive director of CASA, stated, “CASA is honored to be the beneficiary of this performance that tells a real family’s story. Your support will allow community volunteers to provide a specialized voice for our most vulnerable population. I am so grateful.”
The play will be performed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, Saturday, March 7 and Saturday, March 14 at Moody Mansion, 2618 Broadway, Galveston, Texas. General admission tickets are available for the performance only. For those desiring a more in-depth look at the production Director/Actor Talk Back tickets are also available.
“My husband George Douglas Lee, prior to his passing, was working on producing the play in Galveston his home town. Only days before he passed away, Moody Mansion generously gave the green light for the production.  Bringing him the news that the play was a “go” was one of the last conversations George had. On behalf of George and his family, we are delighted the production is going forward and benefiting such a worthy cause,” said Brenda Lee.
Seating is limited. Purchase your tickets at https://casagalveston.org/play/ or call 409-996-5040
